Hajj and Umrah Safety Tips

by Hajj Safe

King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah is a large and modern airport that has the facilities to accommodate hundreds of thousands of pilgrims for Hajj and Umrah. Even so, waiting times at the airport on arrival can be as long as twelve hours. Therefore it is important for to plan for a long wait in hot and humid conditions before leaving the airport for Makkah.

Conditions during Hajj are crowded, with temperatures in Makkah ranging between 18 and 43 degrees Celsius (64 and 108 degrees Fahrenheit). Although there are facilities for the provision of water and other amenities, due to the large numbers of people long wait times should be anticipated, especially in Mina, Muzdalifa, and Arafat.

Unfortunately, Hajj has become an attractive time for fraudsters. Pilgrims need to be aware that some unscrupulous tour operators may abandon them and leave them with unpaid bills, as well as hotels demanding the payment of “hidden charges” for the return of passports. Therefore it is essential to deal with only licensed and established tour operators.

Pick-pocketing and other forms of theft in Makkah have also been on the rise, particularly in and around the Grand Mosque, and in Madinah. This means that it is important to take care of valuables while visiting these areas, and Hajj Safe products are ideal for this.

Extra Tips:

1. To avoid getting lost, stay with your travel group. Carry your travel group's contact information, the location and telephone number of your hotel, your group's itinerary and camp site locations (for Hajj) with you.

2. During Hajj, rest and sleep whenever you can, as Hajj is physically and mentally demanding. Also, eat healthily and take a sufficient supply of any medication.

3. Be aware of emergency procedures and escape routes for your hotel and camp sites at Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat. Hajj is crowded, so make sure you stay calm and follow the guidance provided by your group leader and Saudi authorities.

4. Identify and note the route to the nearest healthcare facilities, and carry a small first aid kit with you.
