Best Gifts for Someone Going on Umrah

Man in Ihram and woman in white, each holding a boxed Hajj Safe product and wearing a beige bag

The best gifts for someone going on Umrah are small, light and used every day: a secure bag or belt for their passport and phone, a shoe bag for the mosque, a soft Ihram for a man, and a few unscented extras. They help the pilgrim stay calm and focused, and they are thought of every time they are used.

This guide covers gift ideas for men, women and families, a few small extras, and what to avoid, so your gift is useful rather than one more thing to pack.

What makes a good Umrah gift

Before you choose, picture the pilgrim's day: the walk to the mosque, crowds at the doors, Tawaf, Sa'i and long hours away from the hotel. A good gift fits that day.

  • It is light. Every gram is carried from Fajr to Isha.
  • It is used daily. Something they reach for each morning beats something kept in the suitcase.
  • It keeps things safe. Passport, phone and cash are what pilgrims worry about most.
  • It arrives in time. Give it a few weeks before they fly, so they can try it at home. We send orders within 1–2 days, and UK delivery usually takes 2–4 working days.

Gifts for men

Men in Ihram have no pockets, so anything that carries a passport, phone and cash safely is welcome.

An anti-theft Ihram belt. Our anti-theft waist bag and Ihram belt is worn over the Ihram and helps hold the izar in place. It has separate pockets for phone, passport and money, and a steel wire-lined strap that is hard to cut. It fits UK waist sizes 30 to 42, so check his trouser size first if it is a surprise.

A neck or side bag. If he does not like anything around his waist, our Hajj and Umrah bag for men has three zipped pockets and neck and chest straps, and it is made to be worn in Ihram.

A soft Ihram. Our Turkish cotton Ihram for men is a thoughtful gift for a first Umrah. If he already has one, a second set is useful for washing and changing.

"I got this for my husband and he really liked it. Such a lightweight belt with a lot of space in it. Perfect for Umrah/Hajj journey"

Gifts for women

A bag she can wear over or under the abaya. Our Hajj and Umrah bag for women has three zipped pockets for phone, money and passport, and it stays in place when she bows and prostrates. It comes in black and beige.

A shoe and prayer mat bag. Shoes are easy to lose at busy mosque doors. Our shoe and prayer mat travel bag keeps sandals, a compact prayer mat and a water bottle together. It suits men and women alike, and makes a good second gift.

Small, thoughtful extras

Small things are often the ones pilgrims remember. A few ideas:

  • Unscented toiletries. Soap, wipes and lip balm without perfume, for the days in Ihram. Our guide to Ihram and its rules explains why.
  • A pocket du'a book or a printed du'a list. Our post on five duas to learn for Umrah is a good starting point.
  • A refillable water bottle. Zamzam is available throughout the mosque.
  • A small power bank. Phones are used for maps, the Nusuk app and calls home. Check the airline's rules for carrying it.
  • A small notebook. For the names of everyone who asks them to make du'a.

Gifts to avoid

  • Perfume or scented products for the Ihram days. If you want to give perfume, give it for afterwards.
  • Heavy or bulky items. Luggage allowances are tight, and space is better kept for the journey home.
  • Anything fragile or valuable. Crowds are hard on glass and on expensive jewellery.
  • New shoes the week before they fly. Sandals need breaking in at home.

FAQ

When should I give an Umrah gift?

A few weeks before they fly, so they can try it at home, set the straps and practise with it. Leave time for delivery: we send orders within 1–2 days, and UK delivery usually takes 2–4 working days.

What is a good gift for an elderly parent going on Umrah?

A neck bag they can see and reach without turning, set to the right strap length before they fly. A shoe bag helps too, so they are not searching the racks after salah.

Can I give perfume to someone going on Umrah?

Many pilgrims avoid perfume and scented products while they are in Ihram. If you want to give perfume, choose it as a gift for after the Umrah, and give unscented toiletries for the journey.

What should I write in an Umrah Mubarak card?

"Umrah Mubarak" means "blessed Umrah". A short note works best: wish them a safe and accepted Umrah, and ask them to remember you in their du'a. Tuck it inside a gift they will carry every day, so they see it in Makkah.

What gift can children give a parent going on Umrah?

A handwritten card with their own du'a, or a page from our free kids' printables. Pilgrims often carry these with them.

Do you have gifts for people going on Hajj?

Yes. Most of the items in this guide work for Hajj too, and our Hajj and Umrah essentials collection has the full range.
