When Is the Best Time to Perform Umrah for UK Residents?

Many Muslims in the UK often wonder: “When is the best time to perform Umrah?” Alhamdulillah, with recent changes to Saudi Arabia’s Umrah visa policies, planning this blessed journey has become easier and more accessible than ever before.

As someone who recently returned from performing Umrah, I wanted to share my personal experience to help guide others who are preparing to answer this beautiful call.

Choosing the Right Time and Package

After the Hajj season ends, the Umrah period reopens — and for UK residents, this is often one of the most peaceful and cost-effective times to go. I went shortly after Hajj, and the experience was truly life-changing. Words can’t fully express the feeling of walking in the footsteps of the Prophet ﷺ, standing before the Kaaba, and performing the rituals of Umrah

I began my preparations by searching for Umrah packages online. A quick Google search brought up several trusted providers. I recommend choosing a package that includes flights, accommodation close to the Haramain, and ground transport — it removes so much of the stress and helps you focus on your ibadah.

Many agents also offer Umrah guides or group leaders, which are especially helpful if it’s your first time.

What’s New: Recent Changes in Umrah Policy

The Saudi Government has introduced several major updates to make Umrah easier for pilgrims worldwide. Here are three key changes every UK pilgrim should know:

1. No More 2000 SAR Repeat Fee

Previously, if someone performed Umrah more than once in two years, they had to pay an extra 2000 SAR. This fee has now been completely removed. Alhamdulillah, this means you can perform Umrah multiple times in a year — and only pay the standard 300 SAR visa fee.

2. E-Visa for Umrah (No More Paperwork!)

Saudi Arabia has launched an e-Visa system for Umrah for over 49 countries, including the UK. You can now apply for your Umrah visa online — no need for embassy visits or long paperwork. In many cases, visas are issued within 24–48 hours.

However, keep in mind that your Umrah visa is only valid for 15 days from the date of issue, so plan your travel accordingly.

3. Freedom to Explore Other Cities in Saudi Arabia

In the past, Umrah pilgrims were restricted to Makkah, Madinah, and Jeddah. But now, with the introduction of the Saudi Tourist Visa, pilgrims can visit other parts of the country too. Whether it’s AlUla, Riyadh, or other historical sites, you now have the chance to explore Saudi Arabia’s rich Islamic heritage while fulfilling your Umrah.

Final Thoughts: Make the Intention

If you’re planning Umrah from the UK, this is one of the best times to go. Fewer crowds, easier access, and flexible visa options make it convenient and spiritually uplifting.

May Allah grant this honour to all those intending to perform Umrah. Ameen.
